One of the biggest influences on my entire design process and thinking is Lee Alexander McQueen.
McQueen died on february 11th, 2010. He was renowned all over the world for his designs, craft, and his consistency of designing a tailored, well fitted garment.
McQueen always 'brought something new to the table', in that he was always thinking of concept and how to get the message through his work.
McQueen is such a huge inspiration for me because for him it wasn't
just about fashion. There was meaning to it and a clear direct message that was lingering around each and every piece he did. For me, that is the most important thing, in that there is something that a person wearing or just observing from the garment, can take with them; and therefore, remember that specific piece for it's significance presented and directed by the designer.
I try accomplish this acquired skill and technique of message and conceptual direction in my designs by thinking about the relationships between the coexistent concepts within our lives and present in our surroundings as well as daily life. I actually find it kind of fun to try and find these connections and relationships between the most broad of topics, and most specific of things.
I strive to be a designer who thinks and not just designs.
Rest in Peace Lee Alexander McQueen
My favorite collection he ever did.
It's beautiful,
elegant,
and
it has a story.
